We recruit second-year law students to participate in our summer associate program each year. Offers are extended to those candidates with outstanding academics who also participate in law journals, mock trial, and/or moot court.

McKool Smith summer associates are provided opportunities to observe hearings, depositions, and trials so they can truly experience life at the firm. Each summer associate is assigned a mentor who teams with a partner in providing work assignments. The mentor, who is an associate with the firm, critiques and guides the summer associate throughout the program. The firm hosts various special events and social gatherings to introduce summer associates to other lawyers and staff, and help them become more familiar with the firm. The compensation for 2L associates includes a weekly salary of $3,100. The firm also pays reasonable moving expenses for summer associates relocating to the Dallas or Austin areas.

The starting compensation package for members of the class of 2013 is $177,500. This includes a sign-on bonus of $10,000 payable upon acceptance of our offer, a December 2013 bonus of $2,500, and a starting salary of $165,000. In addition to the compensation package, the firm pays for bar exam fees, reasonable bar review costs, a moving allowance, parking, and certain insurance premiums.
