McKool Smith is seeking exceptional law students who want to become trial lawyers in a specialty setting. Our firm growth is directed by the increasing client demand. Consequently, the contribution of each lawyer joining us is important to helping our clients achieve their goals. Because of our singular focus on litigation young lawyers have exciting opportunities to be mentored and trained by experienced trial lawyers and to develop significant relationships with clients.
McKool Smith recruits second-year law students to participate in its summer associate program each year. Offers are extended to those candidates with outstanding academics who also participate in law journals, mock trial, and/or moot court.
McKool Smith summer associates are provided opportunities to observe hearings, depositions, and trials, while being given a realistic experience of associate life at the firm. Each summer associate is assigned a mentor who teams with a partner in providing work assignments. The mentor, who is an associate with the firm, critiques and guides the summer associate on the work product. The firm provides various special events through social gatherings to introduce the summer associates to the other lawyers and staff in the firm. In 2008 the compensation for 2L associates includes a weekly salary of $3,000. The firm also pays reasonable moving expenses for summer associates relocating to the Dallas area.
The starting compensation package for members of the class of 2008 is $177,500. This includes a sign-on bonus of $10,000 payable upon acceptance of our offer, a December 2008 bonus of $2,500, and a starting salary of $165,000. In addition to the compensation package, the firm pays for bar exam fees, reasonable bar review costs, a moving allowance, parking, and certain insurance premiums.
