McKool Smith represented Pioneer Corp. against South Korea’s Samsung SDI and related defendants who were accused of infringing two Pioneer patents covering plasma display technology, U.S. Patent Numbers 5,182,489 and 5,640,068. Samsung filed counterclaims, alleging that Pioneer infringed Samsung’s patents.  Those counterclaims were dismissed before trial. The case was tried in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and concluded with a jury verdict in favor of Pioneer and included a finding of willful infringement against Samsung.  The verdict ranked in the top 100 jury verdicts in the country according to VerdictSearch.
