For the third year in a row, McKool Smith has been named to The National Law Journal's Midsize Hot List. The firm is the only firm in the country to make the list each year since its inception.

The 2011 Midsize "Hot List" is comprised of 20 firms in the 50-150 lawyer range that have demonstrated excellence in the courtroom or the boardroom. Firms are recognized for innovative practices and setting the standard for midsize firms nationwide.

In this year’s edition, The National Law Journal notes “The Great Recession has proved no hindrance to McKool Smith,” applauding the firm's ability to expand its client base, strengthen existing practice areas, and plan for new offices in California while many firms are feeling the effects of the economy.

The Midsize Hot List recognition is the latest in a flurry of accolades for McKool Smith this year. The firm was named Lennox International’s “Law Firm of the Year” for successfully defending the company in a national consumer class action in which plaintiffs sought more than $1 billion in damages and injunctive relief. In March, the firm was named the top patent litigation firm in the south by Managing IP and received the publication's 2011 “Patent Case of the Year” award for securing a $290 million judgment for i4i Inc. against Microsoft. On June 9, 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the award, which is reportedly the largest U.S. patent infringement award ever affirmed on appeal. Earlier this year, the firm won a $345 million verdict for Versata Software Inc. in a patent infringement trial against global software giant SAP America Inc. and its parent company SAP AG.

With more than 130 litigators working across offices in New York, Washington, D.C. and Texas, McKool Smith has established a reputation as one of America’s leading trial firms. The firm has been recognized by The National Law Journal and VerdictSearch for winning more Top 100 verdicts than any other U.S. law firm during the past three years. McKool Smith represents leading clients across a broad range of practice areas, including complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and white collar defense.
