Al Silva is Of Counsel in the Dallas office of McKool Smith, where his practice deals with commercial and intellectual property litigation.
Armed with an intense thirst for more knowledge, Mr. Silva’s legal career has been punctuated by challenges aimed at gaining a broader perspective of the entire judicial process. He clerked for a California Superior Court judge, served as a visiting professor, worked as an assistant district attorney, spent a decade in a large law firm, and even practiced solo. Mr. Silva has been heavily involved in various legal and community services projects.
Representative Matters
Gulf South Pipeline Co. In Wyble v. Gulf South Pipeline Co., Mr. Silva defended Gulf South, a natural gas transmission company, in a citizen suit relating to regulatory compliance. Mr. Silva’s primary duty involved marshaling the evidence of Gulf South’s pipeline integrity activities and expenditures.
Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Enron Corp. Mr. Silva was on the McKool Smith team hired by the Enron Corporation Creditors Committee to handle its litigation matters.
Ericsson Radio System Inc. In Ericsson Radio System Inc. v. Interdigital Communications Corp., Mr. Silva defended Ericsson in a patent infringement declaratory action relating to cellular radio technology. Mr. Silva’s primary duty involved working on the analysis of damages.
Parental Guide of Texas Inc. In Parental Guide of Texas Inc. v. Funai Corp. Inc., Mr. Silva represented Parental Guide against numerous television manufacturers in a patent infringement case involving “v-chip” parental-control technology. His primary duty involved overseeing the analysis of Parental Guide’s damages.
Electronic Data Systems Corp. In Akai Musical Instrument Corp. v. EDS, Mr. Silva defended EDS in a negligent misrepresentation case. Mr. Silva’s primary duty involved overseeing the analysis of damages.
