McKool Smith Principals Robin Cohen and Gayle Klein have been recognized among the “Top 250 Women in Litigation” by Benchmark Litigation. The Top 250 Women publication honors the accomplishments of the nation’s leading women litigators.
Robin Cohen, head of the firm’s insurance recovery practice, is one of the nation’s preeminent insurance litigators representing insureds in complex insurance coverage matters. Robin has been recognized as one of the “Top Ten” insurance litigators and one of the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” in the nation by Benchmark Litigation, and one of the “50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America” by The National Law Journal. She has also been named an “Insurance MVP” by Law360 each year since 2013. She was named the 2019 “Insurance Lawyer of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation for the third consecutive year and received a “Professional Excellence Award for Distinguished Leadership” from The New York Law Journal. With more than 30 years of experience, Robin has tried and litigated many of the most significant and cutting-edge insurance coverage cases, including asbestos, product liability, toxic tort, environmental, directors and officers, first-party, employee dishonesty, and employment coverage matters. She has negotiated large insurance settlement recoveries, including recoveries of more than several hundred million dollars. In total, she has helped her clients obtain more than $5 billion in insurance assets.
Gayle Klein co-chairs the firm’s financial litigation practice; she is a standout trial lawyer and strategist who is the lead attorney representing numerous trustees seeking recovery from major financial institutions related to non-performing residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS). Her courtroom prowess extends to alleged breaches of fiduciary duty, thefts of trade secrets, and violations of non-competition agreements. She also has significant experience defending putative consumer protection class actions. Gayle is the only woman listed in the Chambers USA “Spotlight Table” for her representation of institutional plaintiffs in New York securities litigation. She is also ranked for commercial litigation in New York by Chambers USA, has been recognized as a “Litigation Star” in New York and as one of the “Top 250 Women in Litigation” nationally by Benchmark since 2015, and has been included among the “500 Best Lawyers in the United States” by Lawdragon since 2013.
