The article highlights a case filed by the New York Times in December of 2025 against Perplexity AI Inc. over copyrighted material being used train its AI-search engine. It further opens a dialog on the harm that these platforms can bring to news outlets and as Avery describes "self-destructive." He discusses the claims made by the New York Times saying, "The complaints don’t make claims under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. That law could offer a viable path to publishers."
