Overview

Justin Smook is an Associate in McKool Smith's Houston office. He has experience supporting complex litigation through legal research, drafting memoranda and motions, and analyzing case materials in a variety of federal matters.

Prior to law school, he worked for a large automobile insurance company for over a decade, managing property, casualty, and subrogation claim operations and compliance.

During law school, he gained hands-on litigation experience working as a law clerk for a regional insurance defense firm and interning with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, where he worked on False Claims Act investigations and Federal Tort Claims Act litigation. He also served as a clinic intern with the Texas Innocence Network.

Justin earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, graduating magna cum laude. While in law school, he served as Articles Editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal and as a teaching assistant for Property Law. He also served on the University Hearing Board, adjudicating cases involving alleged violations of university policies.

Before attending law school, Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Binghamton University’s School of Management with concentrations in Finance and Global Management. He also earned the CPCU designation and completed executive education at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
