Overview

Matthew Folks is an associate in McKool Smith's Dallas office, where his practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Matthew served as a law clerk to the Honorable Charles R. Simpson, III in the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. During his clerkship, Matthew gained a broad base of experience assisting Judge Simpson in the management of intellectual property disputes, business insurance claims, and class action suits throughout every stage of litigation. 

While attending law school, Matthew fought for veterans’ benefits as a student attorney in the Veteran’s Legal Clinic, assisted in the prosecution of federal crimes as a clerk in the United States Attorney’s Office, and captained the mock trial team to a first-place finish in the Lonestar Mock Trial Competition.

Before attending law school, Matthew served as a Space Operations Officer in the United States Air Force, where he managed civilians, contractors, and military personnel in the launching of commercial and military satellites.

Matthew is proficient in Tagalog and Waray-Waray.
