Peter Hillegas is an associate in McKool Smith’s Austin Office. He focuses his practice on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on federal district court and International Trade Commission proceedings. Peter’s bachelor’s degree from Harvey Mudd College allows him to understand disputed technologies in a wide variety of areas and to explain the technology and issues in a way that is easily understood in a courtroom.
In 2018, Peter left private practice to serve as a law clerk to the Honorable J. Rodney Gilstrap, Chief Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. During his clerkship, Peter gained valuable experience assisting Chief Judge Gilstrap manage one of the busiest civil dockets in the country.
Prior to attending law school, Peter worked for a proprietary trading firm, where he researched and developed long-term quantitative trading algorithms and was a licensed under FINRA Series 7 and 55.
