John Yang

Associate, Dallas

I was initially drawn to McKool Smith during the recruiting process because it offered substantive litigation experience to young attorneys and the opportunity to work on patent cases in diverse technological areas. The firm has certainly delivered. I joined as a first year associate, and within a year, I was taking depositions on my own in a high stakes patent litigation matter. Associates are given as much responsibility as they can handle, and the partners here actively encourage the associates to take on larger roles in cases and to interact with clients. I found this to be the case even on matters where hundreds of millions of dollars were at stake. The partners here trust young associates to contribute in meaningful ways on big cases, and I think this is one of the reasons why McKool Smith is unique.

McKool Smith’s way of running cases is largely the reason that I decided to rejoin the firm after my judicial clerkship. The firm has also given me autonomy in how I manage my own docket, and offers all of the resources that I need to do my job. My colleagues are brilliant and always there whenever I need help. Overall, McKool Smith is a great place to work as a young associate attorney.
