McKool Smith principal Sam Baxter has been named a 2015 “Trial Ace” by Law360. This annual feature recognizes the nation’s top 50 trial lawyers, which Law360 describes as “champions in the courtroom, leaders in their law firms and heroes to their clients,” and notes that “they're the lawyers to call when losing is not an option.”

In selecting Mr. Baxter as one of the country’s leading trial lawyers, Law360 notes that the former Texas State District Judge has a “charm” and “ability to touch the hearts of jurors.” His recent courtroom achievements include helping to secure a $15 million jury verdict for his client, Droplets Inc., after an impressive cross-examination of the defendant’s expert witness—a performance that the client described as “masterful.”  Mr. Baxter also represented whistleblower plaintiff Joshua Harman in a high-profile False Claims Act case against Trinity Industries. After a six-day trial, the jury returned a $175 million verdict for Mr. Baxter’s client. Following the trial, a Texas federal judge tripled the amount of the jury award and assessed more than $138 million in penalties for a final judgment of $663,360,750 for the plaintiff.
