DALLAS -- On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his appointment of McKool Smith attorney Ada Brown as justice of the 5th Court of Appeals in Dallas. 

"I am grateful to Governor Perry and honored to serve as a Justice of the 5th Court of Appeals," said Ms. Brown, whose term will expire at the next general election 

"We are very proud of Ada and all of her many accomplishments," said Mike McKool, Chairman and co-Founder of McKool Smith. "She is an experienced and talented lawyer and well-deserving of this special recognition."

Prior to joining McKool Smith, Ms. Brown previously served as a Dallas County Criminal Court Judge and a prosecutor with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.  She is also a former adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University School of Law. Ms. Brown is a member of the National Bar Association, J.L. Turner Legal Association, the College of the State Bar of Texas, Scribes, and the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary. She is a past board member of the Texas Public Safety Commission and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, past chair of the Dallas Bar Association Criminal Justice Committee and a teacher for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. She is also a member of Mensa and Connections United Methodist Church, and is a volunteer editorial columnist for the Dallas Morning News.

Ms. Brown received a bachelor's degree from Spelman College and a law degree from the Emory University School of Law.
