McKool Smith Senior Counsel Edward Chin has been named President of the Hon. Barbara M.G. Lynn American Inn of Court and began his term last month. Additionally, McKool Smith Associate Brandon Merrill was selected to join the Inn as an Associate.

Ed is based in the firm’s Dallas office and has more than two decades of experience representing clients in patent, trademark, and complex commercial disputes. Over the course of his career, he has litigated over 150 cases in Texas and helped secure more than $500 million in client recoveries. A former federal judicial law clerk in the Eastern District of Texas, Ed has conducted more than 300 fact and expert depositions, including depositions of inventors, technical and damages experts, senior executives, and Fortune 500 CEOs. He currently helps lead the firm’s representation of a manufacturer in complex multidistrict patent litigation involving numerous related reseller actions in federal courts nationwide. His experience includes developing case, damages, and trial strategies in matters involving wireless technology, fintech, medical devices, complex mechanical technologies, and life sciences.

Brandon is an Associate in McKool Smith’s Dallas office. He focuses on all aspects of patent litigation, including developing case strategies, preparing infringement and invalidity charts, managing expert witnesses, assisting with trial preparation, and overseeing inter partes review (IPR) and ex parte reexamination (EPR) proceedings. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and earned M.S. and B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.
