Overview
Justin Smook is an Associate in McKool Smith's Houston office. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex financial litigation, including insurance-related and bankruptcy-related disputes.
Prior to law school, he spent more than ten years with a national insurance carrier, managing property, injury, and subrogation claim operations and compliance. While attending law school, he worked as a law clerk for an insurance defense firm, where he focused on drafting dispositive motions. Justin also interned with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, where he worked on False Claims Act investigations and Federal Tort Claims Act litigation.
Justin earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, magna cum laude, where he served as Articles Editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal and as a teaching assistant for Property Law. Justin earned his Bachelor of Science in Management from Binghamton University in 2011, his CPCU designation in 2014, and completed an executive leadership program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business in 2020.
