Lawdragon recently published a feature article on Behind the Trial, a podcast produced by Benchmark Litigation in association with McKool Smith. You can find it here.
In the article, podcast host Courtland Reichman, Managing Principal of McKool Smith's Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices, notes that he was “inspired at the potential a podcast interview with great trial lawyers would offer for education – to practicing lawyers, hopeful litigators in law schools everywhere, jurors and the public at large.” And while there are skills you learn through formal education – those are less than half of the equation in terms of what moves the needle in persuading people. What happens in “real honest-to-God, hand-to-hand persuasion isn’t discussed,” he said.
Click here to listen to episode 01 featuring an in-depth discussion with celebrated trial lawyer Evan Chesler, Chairman of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. Evan shares his insight on the keys of persuasion, common traits of an effective trial lawyer, and the significance of the "people factor," among other topics.
Future episodes will feature interviews with David Boies (Boies Schiller); Elkan Abramowitz (Morvillo Abramowitz); Gary Naftalis (Kramer Levin); Diane Sullivan (Weil Gotshal); U.S. District Judge William Alsup (Northern District of California); and Mike McKool (McKool Smith), among others.
