Overview
Sean O’Leary is an Associate in McKool Smith’s Houston office, where he focuses on complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. He brings valuable courtroom and leadership experience from his time at the University of Houston Law Center, where he was an active member of the Mock Trial Team and served as Executive Chair. During law school, Sean distinguished himself in national advocacy competitions, earning championships at the 2022 National Trial Advocacy Competition and the 2022 All Star Bracket Regionals.
Before entering private practice, Sean served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Frances H. Stacy of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, where he gained first-hand insight into federal court procedure and judicial decision-making. His work with the court strengthened his ability to analyze complex legal issues and advocate effectively for clients.
Sean’s educational background reflects both breadth and depth. He earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 2023, a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University in 2017, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with minors in History and Geography, from Texas State University in 2009.

Representative Matters
- Ericsson. Represented Ericsson in reaching a settlement with Lenovo in a global patent licensing dispute involving a multi-year cross-license agreement, resulting in the withdrawal of all pending litigation and administrative proceedings, including before the USITC.
