Overview

Edward Chin is Senior Counsel in McKool Smith’s Dallas office and a seasoned intellectual property litigator with more than 20 years of experience representing clients in patent, trademark, and complex commercial disputes. Over the course of his career, Edward has secured more than $500 million in client recoveries and has litigated more than 150 cases in the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.

A former federal law clerk in the Eastern District of Texas, Edward is widely recognized for his strategic insight and trusted reputation before the bench. He has led more than 300 fact and expert depositions, including Fortune 500 CEOs and senior executives, and has developed and executed damages strategies in complex patent trials spanning wireless technology, fintech, medical devices, and life sciences.

In 2013, he served on the trial team led by now-Judge Alan Albright and Magistrate Judge Derek Gilliland that secured a $96 million verdict in a biotechnology patent infringement case for Syntrix Biosystems against Illumina (Case No. 3:10-cv-05870-BHS, W.D. Wash.)—the largest IP verdict in Washington State at the time and one of the top ten nationwide, according to the National Law Journal.

A recognized leader in the Dallas IP bar, Edward serves as Vice President and President-Elect of the Hon. Barbara M.G. Lynn American Inn of Court.
