Overview

Emelia Duguay is an Associate in the Houston office of McKool Smith. She has broad experience supporting complex litigation through legal research, drafting memoranda and pleadings, and developing persuasive written advocacy. While in law school, she also gained practical teaching and mentoring experience as a Legal Writing Fellow and as a teaching assistant for both Constitutional Law and Property Law.

Emelia earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center in May 2025, graduating in the top 15% of her class. In addition, she graduated from the International Energy Lawyers Program between the University of Houston Law Center and the University of Calgary.

Her accomplishments include winning the Houston Bar Association Appellate Practice Division’s Best Brief Award and twice being recognized as Best Advocate in the University of Houston Law Center’s intra-team mock trial tournaments. She was also a member of the National Mock Trial Team and an editor for the Alberta Law Review. In addition, she holds a Master of Science in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University, which complements her interest in energy and environmental matters.
