Overview
Makayla Ashe is an Associate in McKool Smith’s New York office. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and intellectual property disputes.
Makayla earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2024, where she distinguished herself as a top advocate and student leader. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Fordham Law Moot Court Board, leading the organization during the 2023–2024 academic year. Under her leadership, she coached the Maria L. Marcus National Team to a first-place victory at the prestigious National Moot Court Competition, hosted by the New York City Bar Association. She also won the 2023 Cardozo BMI Moot Court Competition, which focuses on trademark and copyright law.
During law school, Makayla gained experience in consumer protection and regulatory matters through an internship with the Federal Trade Commission, and she supported first-year students as a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant.
Makayla earned her B.S. in Applied Statistics from The Pennsylvania State University in 2021. While at Penn State, she was deeply involved in student leadership and community advocacy. She was a founding member of the Black Leadership Council, served as Executive Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee, and was a recipient of the Felsburg and Gohn Service and Leadership Award in 2019.
Makayla brings to her practice a strong foundation in advocacy, analytical rigor, and a demonstrated commitment to leadership and service.
