A Baylor Law School graduate, Stone served as President of the Harvey M. Richey Moot Court Society and was active in the Baylor Barrister Society and the Christian Legal Society. While in law school, he worked as an extern with Judges Alan Albright and Derek Gilliland at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, where he drafted pre-trial orders and observed key oral arguments.
