What differentiates your practice from others?
I have always had a varied practice within the broad category of commercial litigation , both as to subject matter and from both sides of the docket. This has allowed me to stay fresh and engaged even after 32 years of practicing law. Taking cases regularly on both sides of the docket also allows to me to see all angles of a dispute and anticipate the chess moves of my opponents.
How do you maintain a strong client relationship and ensure client satisfaction?
Client service and access are very important to my practice. I am available to my clients day and night - workday or weekend - and make that clear to them at the outset of the engagement. I also treat my clients with respect. At the end of the day, clients are judging me based on my performance and the results that I help produce, so I go above and beyond to ensure their success and help them accomplish their goals.
How do you handle high-pressure situations in the courtroom?
I used to teach public speaking to college students. I told them to remember. Everyone gets nervous. It's how you deal with nerves. When my children used to see me in the courtroom, they would ask me, why I never get nervous. I responded that I always get nervous. I just try not to show it. So I expect to be nervous and I focus on the things that make me the most nervous, and those that I can control I work to control in a way that will help me succeed.
