McKool Smith has been named the “Insurance Litigation Department of the Year" by The New York Law Journal based on the firm’s success in securing a number of significant insurance coverage disputes over the past year. The firm was awarded at an event in New York City on October 17 and featured in an article found here.
Over the past year, the firm’s insurance recovery practice has amassed an impressive record of high-profile wins in complex coverage disputes amounting to more than $1 billion in insurance coverage for the firm’s clients. These victories include two landmark decisions in Viking Pump before the Delaware Supreme Court and New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals. The Court of Appeals victory topped Law360’s list of the “Biggest Insurance Rulings In 2016.”
McKool Smith’s insurance recovery practice was launched in February 2016 with the joining of seven new principals from Kasowitz Benson led by preeminent insurance litigator Robin Cohen. The group earned a national reputation for handling and trying some of the nation’s largest coverage cases, and obtaining more than $8 billion in insurance-related recoveries for clients. In less than one year, the group expanded from seven principals to more than 25 trial lawyers across offices in New York, California, and Texas.
