McKool Smith receives high marks in the 2023 edition of IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners, which describes the firm as a “formidable and fearsome trial firm with an unrivalled will to win.

Firm Rankings

McKool Smith is highly recommended nationally as a leading IP firm for plaintiff litigation, and recommended regionally as a leading patent litigation firm in Texas and Washington, D.C.  IAM notes that the firm's "attorneys draw on their experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants to see the wider picture and craft successful offensive and defensive strategies.” The publication also describes the firm's attorneys as "unflappable advocates who have long since mastered the art of cross-examination, devising convincing trial narratives, and handling multi-million-dollar disputes with aplomb.”

Attorney Rankings

Blair Jacobs is recognized as a leading practitioner in Washington, D.C. and nationally as a leading IP lawyer for disputes in both the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is one of only a very small handful of elite lawyers to be recognized in both national areas. IAM notes that Blair has “handled some of the most high-profile patent cases in the past decade,” and is known for his “strategic thinking and impressive advocacy skills.”

Dallas Principal Nicholas Mathews is recognized as a leading IP lawyer in Texas. IAM notes that Nick is “quickly establishing a reputation as a go-to for innovative technology companies,” and commends his significant work on behalf of industry leaders like AT&T and Ericsson.

Principal Christina Ondrick debuts in the IAM 1000 rankings this year as a leading IP lawyer in Washington, D.C. The publication notes that Christina “has the ability to quickly grasp complex technologies and devise winning arguments for clients in patent infringement suits.”

Finally, trial legend Sam Baxter is again recognized as a leading IP lawyer in Texas. IAM confirms that Sam is a veteran trial lawyer “who you can match up against any other practitioner in the country and be confident of a win.”
