McKool Smith has been awarded the 2019 “Litigation Department of the Year - Intellectual Property” by Texas Lawyer. The firm was selected for this prestigious honor based on its success in high-profile cases over the past year. After a $75 million verdict for client Ericsson was overturned, Judge Roy Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas granted a motion to reconsider and added $25 million in enhanced damages due to TCL’s willful infringement and awarded Ericsson more than $10 million in prejudgment interest, resulting in a final judgment for more than $110 million. In addition, a $145 million patent infringement verdict was secured for WiLAN against Apple in the U. S. District Court of the Southern District of California.
